Authors in Focus #116. August 2012 22:48

Welcome, good evening and hello TMX!

Maybe some of you guys remember the "Author Showcase Project" by Natzke here some years ago. He and other kindful helpers presented some known and unknown authors in an interview-based article. For my taste this is more a interview with a presentation of a user of TMX, but the title sounds like a presentation of an author, a track-builder. So I'm changing the concept a bit and I'll set my focus also on the work the user did in trackbuilding. But don't worry! Normal interviews are going to follow soon ;-)

Episode 1: Alchemy

The first author I'm going to present is "Alchemy" who is active on TMUF-X and TMNF-X. He uploads his stadium-tracks in both exchanges and also publishes some snow or island-tracks, but his focus is set on stadium building.

Personal description

Name: Tom Steinfellner

Age: 15

First time he played TM: When he was 8 or 9 years old he discovered a version of ESWC on a disk from a TV-magazine at home. He directly installed the game and fell in love with it.

Clan: Alchemy is playing in the "Friends and Buddies"-Team (fab). Mainly they play fun tracks, which are built by their clanleader.

Environments: Mainly he is playing stadium ("what else"), but also snow and island sometimes.

Some words about TMX: You always get in contact with new people, who are all special on their own with their own characteristics. You try out tracks and give your feedback as much as it is possible. If you invest your time in playing a track and writing a feedback, you'll get your work back from other people who try out your tracks and tell you some tips for improvement and whether they like your track or not. Simply this awesome community <3

Inspiration: Not a special trackbuilder. "Mainly I'm getting my inspiration from simple tracks, as you can see on my own tracks^^"

Trackbuilding time: For the whole package (40 seconds long track, scenery, testing, little stuff and mt-work) he needs about 5 days to build a track, but this is different from track to track of course.

Focus on Trackbuilding:

Alchemy @ TMUF-X:

In comparison to the Nations Forever-Exchange Alchemys tracks on TMUF-X haven't got that much awards. His most successful track is the sweet little snow-track ''"Morning Hunter"''. But also some of his tracks here don't have any awards. So give them a try, they are definitly worth it.

Morning Hunter:

A track with hunting potential! The WR is 25.22 by Acid - actually a pretty nice time, but probably a improvement is possible (as always in Trackmania, that's why I love the game :D). So give it a try and hunt some nice times! The track is built in a easy way so the hunting potential is pretty hig. Only the start is maybe a bit unsmooth sometimes, which is caused by the interesting using of the pipe. As always you can expect some nice combined transitions by this talented builder here!

Scenery is gone...:

The second track which deserves a try is the island-pf-track "Scenery is gone" by him. I have to admit that it is built without a lot of inspiration in the end part, but the beginning, the first 20 seconds, are simply great. In this part he combines smoothness with nice pipe rides and loops.

Alchemy @ TMNF-X:

Most of his tracks are uploaded on both exchanges since he is building stadium fs-tracks in general. Besides many BOTW-tracks he was able to construct a track which reached a LB-Rating of 96,925! The hunting potential is higher than the Burj Al-Arab here :o He published 24 tracks until now and these tracks got 26 awards on average with a highest amount of 52 awards for his track ''"Revival"''. All these people who awarded his tracks can't be wrong: He is a great builder with a nice diversity in his tracks for sure.

nOw.:

A dream for all the people who love SDs and hunting at all. With a LB-Rating of 96.925 it is the second highest rated track at TMNF-X at the moment. Besides the SDs you'll also find an awesome smoothness in this track, so at all you can say that it is a composition and not only a track. Lovely!

The Speed Hunt-Series:

This series by him contains five easy huntable tracks on TMNF-X which are mainly ruled by »Rockz7ar<3 who got 3 WRs over there. Also these tracks are hunted a lot and every single track of these series got a very own touch with oldschool-elements and nice smooth jump.

This was the first episode of "Authors in Focus". I hope you like the concept, I'm looking forward to your feedback!

Special Author Interview - Nadeo!8. December 2009 20:42

Hey there readers! You noticed that title? We are sure you did :)

Nadeo? Yes Nadeo!
We asked Nadeo how they made their tracks, if there were some tactics, if they used your tracks as an example. With much thanks to Alinoa, who is the builder of the last Campaigns and can be seen as Author "Nadeo". So, we gladly present to you:

Nadeo!

=¤=

~ Where do you get your inspiration? Do you use some TMX tracks as example?

I don't use TMX tracks. I learn from my on-line experiences. I try to analyze what I like when I'm driving. This can be a special blocs combination, a different way of using scenery blocks. For the united campaign, I also played on most awarded tracks of TMX. It's was the first time that I built tracks and I thought to play on TMX tracks would help me to find what some people liked or disliked. Finally the United tracks were completely different from the TMX style :)

Hello, readers….this week we bring you one of Power Rangers that comes from Germany and want to express how serious is situation on front of good and evil xD Really, this week we only can say, for sure, that he is gr8 track builder and to meet him closer you need wear helmet ;) Boys and girls, let’s meet…

Dartz4!

1 Please tell us more about yourself (birthday, real name, place of birth, height, weight, favorite color) and your background?
Hello, my real name is Valentin R. Deuschel. I'm from the south-west of Germany, where I grew up, finished school and do my military service which lasts 9 months. I am 20 years old, 172 cm short and I weigh 65kg. In my free-time, I do sports besides trackmania, preferably jogging and soccer. At the weekend, I go to clubs, parties or watch soccer matches of my favorite team FC Bayern Munich together with some friends (in case I can convince them). I'm planning to study something about mechanical engineer somewhere in the future.

2 What made you become a track builder and who make biggest influence at your beginning?
Honestly: I don't want to hold a laudatory speech about any builder, because I'd like then. The biggest influence has been my old clan Spieleplanet (SP) which I still ride on but left on my still lasting search for a new clan. Mostly the tracks my aWu, Foulie and the wish to play a track by myself on my favorite server [SP] Geekzock motivated me to improve my skills. Once I conquered the world of SP and Geekzock, the doors of the TMX-universe opened for me, where I had to start from the beginning once again. "Brown Stains" by GanjaRider and Panis' "Moving Power" have been outstanding tracks which I wanted to keep up with.

3 Can you please guide us through a typical track project from start to finish and what part of track building do you find crucial?
Let me answer the last part of your question first: Working with the mediatracker. You need to put in lots of time to achieve something that just slightly satisfies you. Once you get the hang of it, you can do impressively much with it - as you can see on TTC 1 and 2.
But back to the main question: In the beginning I always try to think of what exactly I want to build: Speed, Tech, Speedtech, fast Slides, slow slides, grass, dirt, platform, transitions.. Once I've decided this, I try to think of a smooth start or a nice slide and then I keep on building. Then I try to randomly get inspired by everything I've seen yet or just try out some crazy combinations of specific building-blocks. While building, I keep on test-driving my tracks to find out the biggest amount of fun. Even the scenery will get added and edited while building because it often develops into later trackparts, which makes the track more winding and gives you some cooler re-uses and crossings. After finishing the actual track, it usually takes up to 2 or 3 weeks until I can bother to add some MT-work. That's about it.

Hey TMX, welcome back to the Author Showcase! It has been a while for a new interview to appear, that’s totally my fault, so my excuses for that [Januy]. Now, we do have a new one thanks to Natzke, so you can all read this interview with our fresh new Moderator! We are sure you have seen him before, so get to know:

Optimusje!

1.Please tell us more about yourself (birthday, real name, place of birth, height, weight, favourite colour) and your background?
My real name is Joost, I'm 17 years old and live in Uden, which lies in the Netherlands. I was born in a small village called Megen, I'm about 1.90 meters long, weigh round 80 kg. Like said, I was born in the small village of Megen, then I moved to Uden when I was 4 or so years old. Not too many special things have happened in my life, I went to school and live a pretty normal life. I got into gaming when I was bout 12 or so, noobed around a lot and finally discovered TM bout 4 years ago around the Sunrise age. I didn't understand naught of it and ditched it soon, until a friend of mine pointed my attention towards TMN and TMX and there I got hooked.

Today (or actually tonight, over here in Holland), we get a bit back in time. Widely known in the community, by his name and for his tracks, he has reached a nice place between the so called “TMX Legends”. Going way back to the first TMX, Natzke interviewed this man who somehow found a way to get rid of the Trackmania Addiction. We introduce to you:

Andree!

1. Please tell us more about yourself (birthday, real name, place of birth, height, weight, favorite color) and your background?
My real name is André Karlsen. I'm living in Harstad, Norway. Harstad is a small city in the north of Norway with around 23 000 people. Not so many days before I turn 39 of age. I have a wife and two children aged 7 and 10. I'm working at a endoscopy unit as a nurse. I prepare the examinations of the stomach, colon and all other parts where we can use a instrument with a camera to have a closer look. During the examinations I assist both the patient and the doctor.
Its always nice to have some computer skill and know your way with all the different gadget we use. I love my job and my family. I try the best i can to support my children with the schoolwork and all their soccer matches and training.
Height: 190 cm. Weight: 105 kg. Favourite colour: Green (i have worked four years in the Norwegian army and just love the colour)

So, The Blog went into a little dip after the the beautiful article about the WCG made by FastForza. Gladly we still have the interviews! So this week we stay in Nations (sorry TMU), and interview one of the more successful and active dude’s :) We present to you, the almighty:

Rewiind!

1. Please tell us more about yourself (birthday, real name, place of birth, height, weight, favourite colour) and your background?
Hi everyone, my name is Arno, I’m 16 years old and I currently live in Hoofddorp, Holland. I’ve lived here my entire life and I don’t think I’ll be moving very soon (: I’m a little over 180 cm tall, weigh about 60 kg and my favourite colour is.. I think blue. I live at home with my father (50), mother (43) and brother (19). Besides fish, we don’t have pets anymore which is fine by me. My hobbies are mostly listening to music and being with friends. Might not be the most original ones, but they work just fine for me ^^

2. How did you get your nickname?
Gooood question.. I actually have no idea. I do know when it was. I was racing with my old clan leader (a pretty long time ago) as ‘Slybox’. Then I changed to ‘Micro’ (you can guess the jokes ^^) and then I changed it into Rewiind, and it has been that ever since (:

This week we bring you one of the new edge tech followers :) He’s not from this planet and you will not understand him at whole, but try to read between the lines and you will see that you are wrong! We are all one alienized family :P Aliens and monsters we bring you ….

n4meless!

1. Please tell us more about yourself (birthday, real name, place of birth, height, weight, favorite color) and your background?

My actual name is Lars and I was born on Valentines Day 1993 in Germany. I'm neither small nor tall - In fact something around 180cm. I currently live in fairly small village close to the Dutch border in the west of Germany.

2. How did you get your nickname?

Well, I never had a real name - The nick I first used here was "Lars2008" or something like this. Since "Lars2008" is sparsely catchy I eventually started to grope around for a new nick. Like 1 1/2 I ended up using nameless, due to a lack of creativity power.

3. What made you become a track builder and who made the biggest influence at your beginning?

The person who made me become a tracer prolly was GreenRacer.
In the end of 2007 I used to race on the "GigaLigaServer", which was riddled with a bunch of GreenRacers tracks.
Furthermore he probably also was my biggest influence in the beginning of my tracker-career . Later on dipl0 turned into my biggest influence.

Well, hello everybody, this time we bring you a true Russian bear to your door step! Pls, don’t be scared, don’t cause panic XD Because he is probably the only bear that plays TM, with a gamepad :)) Girls and scared boys we bring you ….

zY!

1 Please tell us more about yourself (birthday, real name, place of birth, height, weight, favorite color) and your background?
Date of Birth - January 2, 1983, my real name is Maxim, place of birth - Russia, Izhevsk. Favourite color - green. Favourite games before (because now I don’t play anything other than tm) was elastomania, quake3, SOF.

Because I’m a designer and programmer, funny isn’t it? My hobby is developing small games for myself (they are little known, but I dislike them, I also hate to advertise myself and my creations). I’m a music lover too and I like to listen different styles and directions – or something like that.

2 What made you become a track builder and who made the biggest influence at your beginning?

I always liked to create something. I was attracted by the game thanks to the fact that you can create your own maps and share them with friends.

Tracks for TM I begin to build after 6-8 months of playing TMN, before that I played in TMO – I also had the desire to do something there, but at that time I had no internet and creating work for yourself is not interesting. The first tracks I created were for the server of my team - 70% of them was laps and now I see that they were terrible. At that time it seemed to me that it's fun to create a circular tracks, but since then, I dislike to make such kind of tracks.

I like tracks from Swensen, T-hunderbird, Ron Turbo and you can say that they had big influence on me, but I can’t say that they were the only ones. I also copied from and was influenced by some others authors that I like.
