RPG Track Building Contest!27. November 2009 23:10
Posted By: View User Profile Fastforza Permalink | Comments (2)

TrackMania RPG Blog are here with a brand new RPG Contest, sponsored by HawkGer.

The 23rd of December will mark the 1 year anniversary. This was the day, Kryw submitted his excellent temple track.

How will the contest work?

Being an RPG competition, this contest will only accept tracks that qualify as RPG. A definition of an RPG track can be found on the RPG Blog.

The competition asks you to make at least 5 alternative routes. The routes will be on one side, hard to drive but faster, and on the other side, easy but longer. So it's up to your driving skills to decide if you go for a fast time or not. "To clear things up: no, you don't need 5 alternative routes which goes from from start to finish. You need to have at least 5 CP's or tricks where two or more ways lead to the same CP/place again."

Madhouse Knockout #226. September 2009 14:04

If you've raced in the first Madhouse Knockout comp. Then you'll be very interested in the second!

My good Aussie friend, Mikey, has organized the second Madhouse Knockout competition! Madhouse Knockout is one of Australia's well known competitions, the first competition was fun and well recieved by players. There was plenty of spectating by most players, but that's the nature of the Madhouse Knockout competition in itself is entertaining to watch.

If you are planning on joining the event, please be sure to turn up earlier, at least 15 minutes. The competition is expected to commence start at 8:00pm (AEST +10), this event shouldn't exceed 1-2 hours, depends on number of players. You should find the server in the Australin zone, the name should say it all.

Format:
Game Mode : Rounds
Warmup : 1
Points to win round/track: 10
Finish Timeout: 60 seconds
Basically only one attempt on each track !

Rules:
If all players complete the round last place is eliminated, Knocked out, other wise ;
Any invalid times , knocked out , sorry
All "Did not finish", knocked out

Notes
It will be unavoidable that some competitors will also be authors, sorry, but they will only get an advantage on one or two tracks so it shouldn't be a big advantage. When it is down to only 8 competitors left, for no tracks will the author be of a remaining player. The quality and style of the tracks could be highly variable and in some cases even a little dodgey. But the tracks are equal to all so don't complain, You are competing against each other at the same time on the same tracks. Hopefully all the tracks will be new tracks made for this competition, But extra tracks may be from TMX if needed. Australian internet infrastructure is not that good compared to other places, that combined with our location, Server bandwidth and potential international congestion at that time, There may be lag for some etc This is out of my control, if you are knocked out because of this sorry, but no exceptions will be made.

Starting times
GMT: 10:00
AUS: 20:00 EST ( 8:00pm )
ENG: 11:00
FRA : 12:00
GER: 12:00
USA: 3:00 West
USA: 6:00 East

If you require more assistance, vist the Australian TrackMania website.

Thanks! Fastforza.

FunPark RPG Cup24. September 2009 06:14

If you haven't already heard of the FunPark RPG Cup, I'll explain it.

FunPark's RPG Cup is an event focusing on uniting RPG players from all around the world to compete in one large RPG event, but remember that this event mainly about having fun with other RPG players. The RPG Cup was an initially created by error1.3 and >Y<.

The FunPark RPG Cup will be a 3 day long even, running from the 25th to the 27th of September 2009 at around approximately 18:00 (UTC). The event will take place on one of FunPark's servers - FunPark | RPG Cup. You should find this server in Sweden. It will be online everyday until the RPG event starts, giving you time to practice.

If you think you can't compete. Your wrong! This event is being held for anyone, so there are no limitations of any kind.

There will be several maps to play set out on 3 consecutive days. Friday's (25th) line up -  Castle of Shadows, Legopolis and Montezumas Treasure. Saturday's (26th) line up - Sobékite, The Boat and Baofengxue. Last but not least, Sunday's (27th) line up - Mario World, Mykérinos and Pyramids Of Giza.

Prizes for the event are a little different this time. The more players donate, the more the amount of coppers that can be handed out. There is no fixed price, so your free to donate as much as you want towards the event to increase the prizes value.

Betting for the FunPark RPG Cup will start when the last round on the 26th ends. You can bet on your favourite player by sending a PM or ingame mail to login: pcerrornerd. You'll need to write how much your betting and the player your betting against. All betting closes before the final round starts on the 27th. Names of the finalists will be posted on the cups homepage, here.

I hope some of you will participate in the FunPark RPG Cup and have some fun!

Sorry for the delays on this post. Fastforza.

It’s time for a fun little game: Image Quotation! The idea is simple: make up a funny quote that the vehicle in the below image is saying. The funnier, the better :D

Picture 1 (Gamespot.com) (Image from www.gamespot.com)

So, what is the vehicle in the foreground saying? Add your suggestion(s) in a comment to this post!

Example: “No way, not again!”

A Treasure Hunt for Treasure Tracks7. May 2009 10:39

Did you ever try a track (possibly by a completely unkown author) without any awards? You probably made the single most fatal mistake in your whole Trackmania career by not or only rarely doing so. Yeah, I love to exaggerate, but you'll see, you missed out on a lot.

At the time of writing out of 82.000 submitted tracks on United Exchange, 52.000 never saw the pleasant shiny golden glow of an award and a huge percentage of those even went by entirely unnoticed without a single comment on the trackpage. This means no feedback, no tips and no encouraging words, and just the nagging thought "What did I do wrong?" is left for the author.
On the other hand, some tracks receive immense numbers of awards, but do they really deserve these? Many obviously do, as hours of work were put into them, showing off in the quality of the final "product". Still, a huge number of those were awarded to the tracks by regular TMX users, who grew accustomed to this "TMX-style" of tracks, which is the main problem.

Most of you probably read TStarGermany's article "Where have all the good tracks gone?". In case you did not: "The BOTW (best of the week) lists on TMX are usually crowded with these ‘usual suspects’ and their published tracks are mostly airborne and crazed out jabberwocky, far away from anything that can be joyfully driven by ‘normal people’." This sums up one of the important aspects of it pretty well. Since the publication of the article back in February, things did a change to the better, though. At least for United, where the focus of this article lies.
